kat scratch: DIY red jeans

It all started when...
I saw these red jeans on ZARA's website.
I fell in love.
I am obviously obsessed with RED
and I live in my jeans.
So, I figured I could DIY my own.
A little thing I call "Kat Scratch".

RIT dye 101:
Add dye to boiling HOT water.
Add salt.
Submerge material into the dye bath.
Agitate for 30 min.
Rinse and soak in COLD water with a few cup vinegar.
Rinse, dry, wear.
FABULOUS!

I love my red jeans!
I already wore them out to breakfast
with the boys at the Cowgirl Cafe.

Isn't that chic :)

And they go with almost everything:

kat walk: how to pack for the big apple

Do these people look HAPPY to you?
That's because they are on there way to New York City!
(and I can't believe I posted a picture of me without makeup!)
So I asked my friend Kam to let me pack her bags...
Aren't I a lovely friend?
I wanted to use as few items as possible
and still prepare her for chilly New York City.

Here is the list:

2 pair pants (black and denim)
1 warm winter coat with hat and gloves
2 pair boots (brown and black)
3 blouses
1 bright dress
3 sweaters
2 belts
2 scarves
and a handful of jewelry.

One of those adorable bag needs to fit all Kam's camera equipment
AND we need lots of extra room to for all of her shopping!

So here is what we came up with:
DAY 1
Love the red accent in her necklace.
I also love the brown and black together!

 DAY 2
We talked about this being a great travel out fit because the blouse is
comfy and loose.  She can also use her pashmina as a blanket on the airplane.

DAY 3
I love to mix patterns like the floral in her tank and the pebble pattern in
her scarf. The key is to stay in the same color family.  I love that this
outfit looks so effortless...even down to her little rosette earrings.

Day 4
Even though this ensemble is mostly neutral we added the gold jewelry and this
adorable mustard hat to make it POP!

Notice the adorable little keys on Kam's necklace.  It's so dainty!

DAY 5
We needed something BRIGHT to add to the repertoire.
This adorable dress looks SO cute over Kam's skinny jeans.
We added a little shrug for warmth that "off-matches" just right and
the teal bauble necklace makes the whole outfit feel fresh.
We added the skinny belt to accentuate Kam's waist because with all the layers
you can lose the slim lines of your body.

DAY 6
Truth is we are only going to be there 5 days but you always need a pinch hitter.
Here we used the item (blouse and jeans) that we are already packing and
adding two accents (ruffle sweater and statement necklace).
Make all your clothes work for you and you don't have to bring as many-
more room for fabulous NYC finds!!!

and ONE empty bag for all her shopping!

girlie

Meet Hannah a Classic Bride.
So stunning and effortlessly beautiful.
Girlie is the name of the MAC eyeshadow I used .
I also used Please Me lipstick and clear lipglass.

Hannah is wearing individual eyelashes
on her top and bottom lash lines.
The dress was a remnant piece of dupioni silk
that is held together by a few stitches and a broach.
Jewelry is my own and the tulle is straight from the bolt.
An interesting note...Hannah isn't wearing any shoes. Lol!
She traipsed around this field in her bare feet
suffering for the cause
and creating these ethereal images.

Thanks Hannah!
And thanks to Kamee June Photography for the images
and Rachel Claire Photography for the sharing in our vision!

And that's a WRAP!!!

kitsch style makeover: meredith

" I learned a lot during our time together.
Katrina got me thinking outside of the box and even got me in WHITE pants! White!
I think the biggest thing I learned is to use what I have and to accessorize. Who would have thought that throwing a belt on a dress would make it look brand new? I spent boatloads (ok, so maybe not boatloads) but more than I would like to admit on that dress, only to wear it once. Now I feel like I can get more use out of it! Throw on a necklace and a bracelet with a plain tee and you can instantly elevate your look. I would have never thought to wear a turquoise necklace and bracelet with my blue and white stripped t-shirt, but it worked.
Before this makeover I used to only buy accessories (jewelry) if the colors matched perfectly, which hardly ever happened. That meant I never ended up wearing any accessories unless they were silver or gold. Katrina taught me that contrast is good and the accessories don’t always have to match perfectly. That pencil skirt and the black top with the blue accessories?! Genius! I normally would have worn silver with that, which I still could, but the blue is more fun.
There was one dress Katrina handed me at Target and insisted that I try it on. My first thought was that it looked like something my mom would pick out but I tried it on anyway. The dress fit but still doubted it. Katrina told me to add a belt and a cute pair of wedges and the dress would work, so I trusted her. When I got home, I tried the dress on for my husband (without the accessories) and he didn’t like it. I left the room and came back accessorized (belt, cute shoes and some jewelry) and he thought I looked great! See?! It’s amazing what accessories can do to an outfit.
My husband even appreciates my makeover!
He likes my new look and he likes my organized closet even more.

There are three people I need to thank…
My husband for putting up with my million trips to the mall and Target, and for letting us girls take over the house.
My wonderful friend Lindsay of Lindsay Chavez Photo. Thank you so much for the wonderful photos and for just being you.
And last, but not least, Katrina. Thank you so much for your friendship and your fashion expertise through the years. Thanks for making me think outside of the box and for putting up with me throughout this process. Because of your love and encouragement, I feel better than I have in years and I’m finally out of my clothing rut!
This experience was such an eye-opener for me and so much fun! If you are thinking about doing a makeover with Kat, do it! I promise you won’t regret it."
